Ethiopia ![]() Ethiopia, the ancient Christian kingdom of Abyssinia, is a country of immense diversity, in its geography, in its religions, and in its many cultures. With its beautiful, green Simien Mountains, its ancient orthodox Christian religious centers of Lalebella and Gondor with their incredible rock-hewn churches, its historic castles and unique cave churches, and its remote Omo River Valley tribes—Ethiopia is truly a fascinating and unique part of Africa. This gallery presents my favorite images from the Omo Valley in the southwestern corner of Ethiopia. The Omo tribes, the Mursi, Hamar, Karo and Bumi, are among the most primitive and unchanged people in the world, largely untouched by the influences of the developed world. However, these primitive cultures will, no doubt, vanish in the not too distant future. I am lucky to have had the opportunity to visit these cultures before they disappear. |

Antarctica
The Antarctic is actually a desert land of ice-covered mountains—the 7th Continent—one like no other. It is amazing that this harsh land has such an abundance of wildlife—penguins, whales, seals, and many sea birds. A voyage to Antarctica is an awesome adventure. Add to that a trip to the Falkland and South Georgia Islands, and you have a trip of a lifetime. South Georgia teems with wildlife in abundance and concentration found almost nowhere else in the world. And it is the site of some of the greatest adventure stories in history—the Antarctic explorers of the early 20th century, most notably Ernest Shackleton. It is difficult to depict the beauty of this part of the world. I hope my images convey some of the majesty that is the Antarctic. |
